Today, on 3 June, the President announced on the press-conference that he has already registered a submission on appointment of new CEC members.

A press-conference was held in Administration of the President on the eve of the second anniversary of Petro Poroshenko's inauguration. The President announced that he has registered a submission on appointment of new CEC members yet before the beginning of the event.

We remind that 12 of 14 CEC members have had their seven-year term of office expired yet on 1 June 14. However, their term of office was extended to prevent interruption of the presidential election campaign. New candidacies were suggested to Petro Poroshenko yet in spring 2015. Thus, factions and groups of MPs submitted 30 candidates.

Taking into consideration that all the national and local elections have finished, Ukrainian leading citizens and expert organizations called on the President of Ukraine not to evade his duty and appoint new members of the CEC. Thus, we prepared a statement concerning urgency of rotations in CEC membership and started collecting signatures under aPetition to the President concerning appointment of new Central Election Commission members

The President of Ukraine is the only person authorized to select nominees for CEC members, who are going to be considered by the Parliament, from the suggested list of candidates. According to the Law of Ukraine on the Central Election Commission, the President of Ukraine should include candidates suggested by factions and groups of MPs of the current convocation of the Parliament to the list of candidates for CEC members, submitted for appointment.
